EQUINE SENIOR SAVES ANOTHER ONE
by Ernie Rodina

Last winter I receive a call from a friend and customer who had happened to loan her retired show horse toa family for their children. She had no idea what was happening to Frosty until one day she checked on him. Frosty was close to death and I would have to say that if we had had one more major cold front he probably would not have lived.
Because this friend boards her present horse it would have been difficult for her to take care of Frosty. She called me and asked if my family would take him, get him back in condition and allow him to spend hisretirement with us.
Frosty is 21 years old and has a tremendous show record of 384 points in the Paint Association, most of
them coming from western Pleasure.
What a gift Frosty has been to my family! Since he has gotten back into better shape, Frosty's purposes in
life have been to keep the pasture trimmed down, to be a buddy for our 35(+) year old pony, and to give
short enjoyable trail rides to family and friends. He even made a return to the arena on Memorial Day at
the Lyndon Horse Show. Frosty has two speeds - Stop and Slow - and he is truly a horse you can put
anyone on!
This is how we fed Frosty to get him back in shape:
We started him slowly on Purina's Equine Senior, working him up to 18 pounds/day by the third week. He
had hay free choice, but we were relying on the nutrition of Senior to carry the load. By the second month,
Frosty was getting 6 pounds of Equine Senior four times a day. Right now he gets about 6 pounds of
Senior three times a day, along with pasture and hay. (Midnight can't chew hay and he gets 4 pounds of
Equine Senior twice a day. We also put Frosty on a routine worming program.
I know there are hundreds of stories like this involving Equine Senior, but this one hits close to home. This
horse and pony have really provided a lot of enjoyment to our family and friends. Thank you, Milton and
Deena Kelly, for Midnight, and thanks to another good friend for giving us Frosty.
