CURT PATE Comments
Part 3

Last time we visited about our horses' attitude. Now let's talk about some of the things I nave been able to see about peoples' attitude and the rewards they get from their relationship with the horse.

The best thing about my relationship with Purina and all the places I get to go for them is I am able to see a lot of different people and horses. From what I have observed, for most people, the more advanced they become, the less fun they have with the horse.

When I see folks that are just getting started with horses, they may not have all the proper equipment, have all the proper clothes that are in style, and the trailer and truck (if they even have one) may not be the fanciest and shiniest, and when they ride the horse may not always be in the proper lead, or maybe not even in the proper gait, and while they are probably bouncing around and trying to stay on more than anything else, they are having a great time and really love being around the horse.

Now let's jump ahead ten years. The horse owners are headed to the horse event. They are in the 40 thousand dollar pickup with the 20 thousand dollar trailer that the bank has financed. In the trailer we have some expensive horses, tack and all the things that go along with it. The horses are so expensive and so much money has been spent on the training and lessons that you can only ride then in the arena and only do the things that they are trained for. When the horses are unloaded everyone is fighting and arguing about what should be done and how it is done with the horses.

This looks like a high price to pay for some ribbons or buckles or the little bit of money won.

I hope you will think about this scenario and honestly analyze your situation. Are you honestly having fun? Are your family or friends having fun? And, last but not least, is your horse having fun? If not, then get out of your current situation and start enjoying life with the horse.
